Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant @ Sri Hartamas

9/1/2012

Ahn Yeong Ha Sae Yo ~ 안녕하세요 ~

Due to the urgent need to satisfy my sudden urge of Everything-Korean, me and a few friends had an impromptu decision to head over to Sri Hartamas to have dinner yesterday. Holly~ How much Hartamas have changed. I think the last time I've been to Hartamas was when Soda/Dragon bar still exists. One would be spoilt for choices as there are numerous  Korean restaurants in the Hartamas area. We went to Dao Rae as it was one with the most positive reviews online and upon recommendation from one of my friends.

While I was flipping through the menu, I noticed something peculiar. Spot the difference~

Going to a Korean restaurant makes me mesmerize on my University years. Although not far back, a year ago to be exact, I still miss the times I spend with my buddy Hyun Ji! Omg, Hyun Ji if you don't read this I'm gonna kill you even though in my heart, Sae Rang Hae Yo~. We never really visit Korean restaurants often, as we always feel that Hungry Jacks and McD will beat korean cuisine hands down during those times. Likewise with Malaysian food. And now that I'm back here and she still in Aussieland trying to make a name for herself, I kinda miss the camaraderie we had back then. And all I remember while I was having Korean yesterday was, "Pe Go Pah & Hua Zhuang Sil Ga Go Shi Pah". Terrible.

My life story much more exciting then this insignificant restaurant nestled in the middle of Hartamas right? lol. Back to Dao Rae. Reknown for its good food and reputation, Dao Rae has a couple of franchises set up around KL/PJ. I also did a previous review on Dasarang Korean BBQ Restaurant. Our starters actually came right after our first dish. Normally there will be 3-5 starters in a typical Korean restaurant, but this place provides about 8-10 starters, with unlimited refills I think.

Bul-go-gi. Which is basically shreds of beef with glass noodle, carrot, shallots and an assortment of other veges served in a hot pot with covered with sauce/mild gravy some people might call it. Normally people consume the beef together with the sauce and rice. My favorite dish in Korean cuisine.

Jab Chae is our next dish. Glass noodle serve with shreds of meat and 3 large size prawns top with an assortment of vegetables.

Nakji Bokkeum is one of my favorite dishes as well. I like everything octopus and calamari related. This dish is pretty spicy and is serve with noodles instead of rice. I LOVE THIS.

And last but not least, the Korean BBQ! Frankly speaking, Korean BBQ is the most expensive type of BBQ in my humble opinion. 2 slabs of pork chops cost us Rm55 and 2 slabs of beef cost us Rm35. Meat was marinated and cooked to perfection and it was scrumptious nonetheless.

Gal Bi Sal & Dae ji Gal Bi.

Normally eaten together with lettuce and sauce.

The Satisfactory aftermath.

The bill came up to about rm190 for 3 people. Steep. But that's also mainly because we over-ordered not knowing that the portion was that huge.

Overall Rating: 8/10 because of the delectable feast. While I was there, I noticeed that there was also a lot of Koreans dining there. They must be doing something-right since the natives like it there too. However, because the place gets really packed on weekends, hence, it tends to be a bit nosie. Despite the price, I was very satisfied with my meal. Will definitely revisit.

FYI, there's a newly open branch in Ss2 square, located right opposite of Hock Seng, the same row as KFC. Will pay that place a visit and do another review on Daorae then.
