Wondermama X @ Avenue K KL

A farewell lunch, amid a good day at work, at a place that I've been long looking forward to.

Wondermama X

So much to see - so much to photograph. This is the kind of setting that spurs me to pick up my camera and start shooting. Wondermama X's interior have this quirky and vintage charm that had heaps of elements working all at the same time.

Not to be mistaken with Wondermama Bangsar, or the flagship Wondermama so to speak, this outlet is much smaller, but substantially newer. They also have an outlet in Melbourne called The Wonder Kafe.

A peep at its menu and I noticed that not much has changed. The signature Malaysian fusion dishes are still in tact and the Nasi Lemak versions are also akin to the former.

This place is always packed, especially during peak lunch hours. A favorite among the white collared crowd working nearby - like me. Luckily for me that day, I got there before the ruckus started, in tow with great company.

Lemonade Soda. Rm8.90.

Mango Smoothie. Rm9.50.

The mango smoothie came refreshingly divine in a metal cup like most of WM's desserts. There could have been some milk in there to hold the shake together, as it was not at all watery towards the end. I really enjoyed this.

WM Special Seafood Maggie Mee Goreng. Rm14.90.

The atas-version of our favorite Maggie mee goreng - scallop, squid, prawns in a special homemade spicy sauce. The first few mouthful was amazing, but after awhile, it could get really salty. Have a glass of water on standby.

Mama Garlic Fried Rice. Rm13.90.

A simple dish of garlic chicken rice that tasted quite bland. To beef up the presentation a little, perhaps having chicken at the side rather than inside the rice, would do better.

Beef Nachos. Rm14.90.

Guys, you won't regret ordering this. The minced beef was sweet, flavorful and reminded me of Korean bulgogi. Don't belittle the sweet garlic sauce at the side - it was equally delicious and complimented the trio very well.

Mari Mari Fried Squid.

The thing I remember fondly about this was the addictive seasoning on top of the squid, and the chilli flakes and fried anchovies hidden beneath added a nice crunch to it. That said, the squid could do with a little less batter.

Kiddies Meal.

The kiddies meal - is only fit for a kid. Adults - you won't get any satisfaction out of this.

Overall Rating: 8/10. Though most of the dishes that I had today were really salty, there's just something about the food here that attracts me. Perhaps its the clever combination of all our favorite food put together that made the magic work. I've tasted a fair share of fusion cuisine to date, but my preference still leaned towards Malaysian-Fusion or something that has an element of Malaysian in it. Familiarity perhaps. For today's lunch, apart from the garlic fried rice and kiddies meal, I would recommend the rest.
