Dettol pH Balanced Bodywash Range

My confused friend once asked, "Dettol? The one that has an antiseptic scent?" Yes and no.

Dettol is Malaysia's leading germ protection brand, known for its antiseptic liquids and disinfecting products. About a week ago, I was invited to Dettol's bloggers gathering. As you all know, I don't usually write a whole lot about beauty products in this blog, unless I can positively relate to the brand, certain of its practically and of course, its quality.

I first heard about Dettol when I was a kid. My mum always tell me, "Wash your hands with soap - that yellow one." She was a firm believer of Dettol and the importance of protecting the skin's natural barrier.

Fast forward many years later, I must admit that I was very excited to rekindle some good ol' bond with Dettol!

As a young working executive, I spend most of my time indoors, in an air-conditioned room. If I'm not, I'd be outdoors, amidst the heat and pollution, sometimes jogging but mostly out-and-about scouting for food. Over time, with a lifestyle like that, will plausibly lead to various skin complications if not taken cared of properly.

For that reason, I know that it's vital to protect the skin's natural barrier by keeping the skin germ-free and moisturized at all times, including maintaining the right pH level.

In like fashion, I'm going to tell you a bit about the science behind that theory.

Now, the surface of our skin have this protective layer called the acid mantle - a natural barrier that neutralizes bacteria, viruses and other harmful pollutants that comes in contact with our skin. Isn't that amazing?

The theory is simple. A healthy pH level for acid mantle of 4.5 to 6.2 will keep the skin healthy, and a damaged acid mantle will lead to dehydration, sensitive skin, oily and dry skin, and even acne!

And as for me, unfortunately, I relate to all of the above. Hence, it takes a lot of TLC to keep my skin happy.

But today, I learned that with proper cleansing and moisturizing, together with the right antibacterial protection, my skin would do just fine. This, can be achieved with just one bottle, Dettol's pH balanced body wash.

Let me show you.

We did a simple pH-test on Brand X and Dettol pH-balanced body wash, using a pH pen that changes color when the pH on the skin deviates. Resembling a litmus test but obviously a much more advanced version.

Note the color - results are very straightforward. Bare skin - acidic, dry and needs moisturizing. Dettol - Perfect pH level. Brand X - alkaline and causes premature aging.

I had fun testing out the body wash after that and let me tell you this - the new pH-balanced shower gel is fantastic. It cleans without stripping off the natural oils and unlike most body wash, my skin didn't feel dry and scaly after that. It felt clearly smoother and moisturized. I felt great!

The main point here is - why use something that does nothing to help the skin, but not Dettol which actually does wonders in getting rid of germs and bacteria while still maintaining the skin's moisture?
