Having been around for more than 10 years in Malaysian shores and with 70 branches in tow, 士林 Shihlin is believably one of most prevalent household name in the Klang Valley by now. This casual Taiwanese restaurant has been my default food place for years. If I don't know what to eat, this is where I go, I come here all the time.
However, unlike any other visits to Shihlin, today, I will be sampling a new dish - 阿嬤 滷肉飯 Grandma's Braised Meat Rice - available for a limited time only, from now till mid-February 2015. Also not missing out on some of Shihlin's good old signature offerings that everyone loves.

Shihlin's Grandma's Braised Meat Rice comes packed with generous serving of fragrant white rice, pleasantly flavorsome braised minced chicken, slices of firm tofu and half a braised egg.
This home-styled dish is available a la carte (Rm8) and in a combo meal (Rm11.90), served together with my favorite Sweet Plum Potato Fries.
Now, I'm not going to individually deliberate on all the dishes. Apart from the rice, the mushroom cheese and sausage cheese egg crepe, the rest of the dishes you'll see below are not new. That said, please remember to scroll down for my highlights and summary.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. The highlight of today's meal, Grandma's Braised Meat Rice, was surprisingly enjoyable. It could've been served steaming-warm, but was pleasant for its price and definitely value for money in a combo meal. Again, it is available a la carte, at Rm8, and the combo meal comes with additional sweet plum potato fries, at Rm11.90.
New additions - Mushroom Cheese and Sausage Cheese Egg Crepes. Those has yet to make a mark in the permanent menu board. In the meantime, you can request for an order at the counter.
Over the years, many have argued on Shihlin's dwindling food qualities, but let me ask you this - is there any other place where you can get affordable chicken, mee sua and sweet plum potato fries, all at an affordable price and at one pit stop? For me, I don't see an alternative just yet.
