Standing Theory Cafe @ SS2 PJ - Good. Simple. Boring.

BBC Waffle

An impromptu meetup with a primary school friend whom I've not seen in more than 15 years. It turned out to be quite an adventurous meet - sharing travelling experiences and stories of all sorts. A mental note to self: I need to travel more this year.

Standing Theory

Standing Theory needs no introduction. Having been voted as one of TOKL's Best Coffee 2014, I was pretty sure that I will be in for a treat today.

The menu is not extensive, with only 5 breakfast dishes, 6 dinner dishes and some homemade cakes displayed on the counter top. Not much variety going on there, it's either a deal or no deal this one. A glimpsed at the tables around me, everyone ordered the same thing, notably the waffles and the baguette. Let's see how things turned out shall we?

BBC Waffles. Rm16.

The overall taste and textures of the BBC Waffles were cleverly done, especially the vanilla ice cream with cornflakes, that was a nice added touch. It didn't take long for us to gobble it all up. If only they could imitate Smoking Hog's crisp bacon, this waffle would easily be one of my favorites.

Con Carne. Rm17.

The Con Carne doesn't exactly jive with the rest of the flavors in their menu, but I was glad they included this. The tender slow-cooked pork and the blend of tomatoes, capsicum and beans were pleasantly fulfilling.

VD Roll. Rm13.

I can't help but compare this Vietnamese roll with Obahnmi. The highlight for me - the charred sweetness from the BBQ pork patty. That was addictive. Though price and bread wise, Obahnmi would still fare better.

Red Velvet. Rm11.

There's just something really likable about this red velvet cake. The cake was fresh and moist and the cream cheese frosting balanced out the sweetness from the red velvet - the right tingle to the palate so to speak. I dare say that this one of the best I've had so far.

Ice Mocha. Rm12.

Ice Brown. Rm11.

Long Black. Rm7.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. A neighborhood cafe, tucked literally in the middle of no where the housing area, that I thought would be a nice cafe to hop in and out of. They don't have much in their menu, but they're definitely focused and doing something right here. The dishes that we had today were pleasant, especially the cake. If you're a fan of red velvet cake, you should definitely drop by.
