Second Sunday & Inside Scoop @ Damansara Jaya PJ - Average Neighborhood Cafes

It was a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon that I decided to go on a cafe hopping spree. This time, in the less hyped area of Damansara Jaya.

Second Sunday

Damansara Jaya square is nothing more than a boring neighborhood when it comes to food and restaurants. There's nothing interesting going on around here apart from a handful of always-packed dim sum places and some other less than commercialized eateries.

So when Second Sunday opened its doors about a week back, I knew I had to give it a go on that very weekend itself. At the moment, parking comes aplenty, but when Atria resurrects, things may take a turn.

Stef and Yours Truly.

Latte. Rm11.

Rose French Vanilla Tea. Rm7.

Number Five. Rm16.

When this arrived, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. It looked sad and portion came meager. To top that, the grilled chicken felt dry, the sauteed mushrooms were non-existent and the melted mozzarella fell flat.

Number Six. Rm15.

Six was slightly better than Five - at least in terms of presentation. This tortilla was nicely crisp, with caramelized apple and toasted almond fillings, drizzled in homemade salted caramel.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10. To be honest, my meal here today wasn't that great. It was 12pm and they've already ran out of my favorite pancakes and French toasts, which also meant that half of their menu was off limits. I had to settle for average tortilla melts instead. There're not much to choose from to begin with, hopefully we'll see some cakes and desserts in their menu soon. Despite that, of the two hours I was there - I dined at ease. The cafe felt cozy with streaks of comfortable natural lighting beaming through, and service was good too. Being the only cafe in the area, the place was packed - there're off to a good start. Though food wise, there're gaps to close in my humble opinion, but to give them an honest second chance, they are still very new, hence still trying to get things in place.

We hopped over to the much talked about Inside Scoop for dessert afterwards.

Inside Scoop

I've always wanted to drop by but never made it, till today. Made famed for it's notoriously delectable ice cream, Inside Scoop is known to be a crowd pleasing ice cream parlor.

Inside Scoop Ice Cream Menu.

Inside Scoop Ice Cream Flavors. Premium flavors: +Rm1.50 extra.

Buttermilk Waffles And Double Scoop Ice Cream. Rm20.

Overall Rating: 7/10. We were given the option of either Buttermilk waffles or Charcoal waffles - a new addition in their menu. Not feeling as adventurous that day, we settled for the Buttermilk option with two scoops of ice cream flavor of choice (Rm18.50). For me, the waffles felt - average. It was delicious no doubt - light, fragrant and crisp - but nothing close to amazing. For ice cream, we picked Cookies & Cream and Rocher (+Rm1.50). We finished every melting bit of it. Tip: Go for the premium options.

On that note, I'm in the midst of testing out a couple of new ice cream joints within the vicinity. Stay tune for the write up alright!
