An unexpected departure - one of my close friend is shifting to Bangkok soon! Which also means that I will be making more frequent trips over! You wait for me - coconut ice cream, papaya salads and shopping of course!
Almost every car which drove pass, slowed down and gazed into the restaurant, curious on the type of food served here.
Straits Food Company carries an array of affordable Peranakan / Nyonya dishes in their menu. For those unfamiliar with this type of cuisine, it is an amalgamation of traditional Chinese and Malay cooking.
Pai Tee. Rm5.50.
Pong Teh. Rm7.
I have never had Pong Teh before and this is my first. It was alright - this sweet and savory chicken stew.
Ikan Goreng Cili Garam. Rm7.
Mee Siam. Rm6.
Barley Cincau. Rm2.
We've heard of soya-cincau but barley-cincau? I enjoyed the mishmash though I could barely taste the barley essence.
Ice Kacang. Rm4.50.
Overall Rating: 6/10. Authentically Peranakan or not, I'm not entirely sure, but theres definitely a hint of Nyonya flavors in all of the dishes I had today. I can't say that food was fantastic but what I can say is that the menu felt value for money, hence decent for its price. If you're looking for a comfortable restaurant to dine at without burning a hole in your pockets, this would be it. On a side note, there is another Nyonya restaurant, about a kilmometer away, Baba Low 486 @ Lorong Kurau Bangsar.
