Tiffin's By Chef Korn @ Mid Valley KL - Good Thai Food.

After a short break to Bangkok, I'm back with a Thai food writeup. No, I didn't have this in Thailand however.

Tiffin's by Chef Korn

It has been awhile since I've last stepped foot into Mid Valley, to the extend that I didn't quite recall the existence of the new level above the cinema the last time I was here - it has been that long. While making my way to Tiffin's by Chef Korn that evening, I had quite an eye-opening odyssey, strolling pass a handful of new eateries there.

Tiffin's by Chef Korn is helmed by none other than Chef Korn himself, the same man behind Erawan, the award winning modern Thai fine-dining restaurant located at Kota Damansara.

Tiffin's on the other hand, is a casual rendition of that, serving modern Northern Thai cuisine, with most ingredients being imported from Thailand.

Reliving some childhood nostalgia - today's dinner was served in tiffin carriers!

Thai Milk Tea (Rm7.80). Passionfruit Tea (Rm8.80). Tom Yum Lime Mojito (Rm8.80). Lemongrass Tea (Rm6.90).

Fire Balls. Rm17.80.

Contrary to its name, the Fire Ball was not-that-fiery, not to worry, fused with minced pork with ground roasted rice, dried chili, spring onion, coriander and shallots. This could get a little dry halfway through.

Spicy Porky Cake. Rm15.80.

A new addition in their menu - a slightly sweet golden brown pancake of minced pork, chopped long beans and kaffir lime leaf. This reminded me of Thai fish cakes but with pork instead. Fantastic! You must try this!

Mango Salad. Rm18.80.

Easily one of the best rendition of a mango salad I've had in awhile. Tossed with plenty of seafood and best of all, loads of my favorite dried shrimp. Can I have a whole plate to myself please?

Grilled Pork Neck. Rm23.80.

Grilled marinated pork neck served with steamed glutinous rice. Dip it in the spicy sweet chilli sauce at the side!

Beef Ball Noodles. Rm25.80.

We also shared the Chef's Special Thai Beefball Soup. Now, I personally found the broth to be a little tame in terms of flavors, simply because I'm a flavorful type of eater. Like most Thai eateries, you get to mix in your share of sugar, chilli flakes, vinegar or fish sauce, from the test tubes at the side.

Signature Classic Seafood Tom Yum. Rm28.80.

Be prepared with tissues in hand! A claypot of spicy and hearty tomyum soup with an abundance of seafood goodies hidden beneath. I thought the clear version was more savory compared to the red ones.

Daddy's Stewed Pork (Rm25.80). Seafood Green Curry (Rm28.80). Kailan With Garlic (Rm16.80).

Served in tiffins, the three main dishes we chose were - seafood green curry, pork stew, garlic kailan and rice.

The green curry was scrumptious - flavorfully sweet and had great thick textures that got me having spoonfuls on its own. The pork stew too was marvelous - tender chunks of succulent pork. It felt like comfort food this one.

Sago. Rm8.80.

For this warm dessert, you'd get a generous serving of chewy sago served in a medly of water chestnut, sweet corn and coconut milk.

Thai Styled Cendol (Rm7.80). Homemade Ice Cream (Rm6.80/scoop).

This Thai styled cendol was served with palm sugar syrup instead of the Malaysian gula melaka, which meant that it had less of that smoky and bitter sweetness that you're more accustomed to.

We also sampled the homemade black sesame and passionfruit ice cream. Surprise - surprise. It turned out to be one of our favorites that evening. I wouldn't mind coming back just for this!

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. My top picks would have to be the Spicy Porky Cake, Mango Salad, Seafood Green Curry, Daddy's Stewed Pork and the Homemade Ice Cream. If you're looking for a good Thai restaurant with a tinge of nostalgia to add, Tiffin's by Chef Korn may just be what you're looking for.
