This post was written on the eve of Chinese New Year, hence the narration.
It was a Casual Saturday outing and the start of a long and happy chinese new year weekend.
I was very glad that town was relatively quiet that afternoon. Traffic was stress free, parking was too, we parked just steps away from Chequers.
Chequers is not new but Chequers Bakery upstairs is. At slightly over a month old, the bakery decks an array of American inspired gourmet pastries and donuts. On the other hand, the former is famed for it's signature waffles.
I had light lunch there that afternoon and here's what I think.
I decided with two savory donuts and I thought the best of them both would be the BBQ Beef Ribs (Rm5). It came shreds of delicious slow roasted beef in sweet homemade barbecue sauce. |
The Chipotle (Rm5) too was a delight, stacked with grilled chicken, tortilla and cheese. The donut tasted fine but the texture probably needs some tweaking. For me, it was very dense and crumbly - a little off in fact. Fluff it up a little please? |
Hanami (Rm8). |
On a seperate ocassion, I dropped by Chequers Cafe to sample their much talked about siganture waffles.
Overall Rating: 8/10. I really liked the BBQ Beef Ribs savory donut, but what'd probably wowed me was the Norwegien. On a side note, is there any other cafes in town which serves savory donuts, at an affordable price of 5 bucks each? At Chequers downstairs, if I were to pick my favorite, it would clearly be the Chicken Cob Sandwich. I will be back to sample their sweet versions once my sweet tooth rocks in.
