OMAYA 春川炒鸡 @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Just another hectic, noisy and crowded day at Omaya Malaysia.

OMAYA's 春川炒鸡 recent opening in Subang Jaya, stirred up plenty of hype among the korean food enthusiasts, including myself. There's usually a long waiting list, tables are fairly limited, and spaces are scarced. Be prepared to wait for a at least an hour or two, especially during peak dining hours.

Their specialty? Simseun Tang, 1200mm Korean Giant BBQ Skewer, Giant Pork Rib Cheesey Topokki Stew and Honey Mustard Boneless Chicken Cubes - all of which I sampled during my recent visit.

To start things off, I had a go at the giant bottle of Rainbow Slush (RM11.90) - a fantastic party knick-knack if you'd ask me. Tip: Post a picture of your dining experience in Omaya, on your Facebook Page, and show it to the floor staff and get this for free!

The Cotton Candy Fizzy Drink (RM9.90) came in the form of a glass of orange fizz plopped with a cloud of cotton candy. Bewarned - this could get real messy.

Before I even start on the food, I just have to add that the unlimited refills of kimchi here was - fantastic. If you're a fan of these pickled goodness, like me, this would be a joy to devour.

Now for food, we had the 1200mm Korean Giant BBQ Skewer (RM138.00) - hung high and dettached only when it was ready to be grilled.

The chewy and gritty texture of the grilled pork, chicken, squid and prawns, were complemented by chunks of sweet pineapples, capsicum and onions. Surrounding the grill - a delicious circle of crisp and fluffy egg.

The dish was a show-stopper on it's own, though I felt that the meat could do with way more flavors altogether.

Like the name suggests, the Giant Pork Rib Cheesey Topokki Stew (RM68.00) came with five humungous sticky glazed ribs, in a pool of mildly spicy stew (thickened from the melted cheese), filled with kimchi, topokki (rice cakes), fish cakes and an egg.

All hands were on the ribs - we didn't finish the stew. You have to use your hands for this one!

There's cheese in everything at Omaya.

The Honey Mustard Boneless Chicken Cubes (RM25.00) came in a hotplate of sizzling cheese. I really liked the chicken cubes - it had a delicious glaze of sweet and sticky flavors on the outside, yet tender inside. Best eaten with a layer of pipping hot melted cheese.

I didn't sample much of the Simseun Tang (RM84.00) however. Meant to be shared between 2-3 persons, if you're looking at tasting a bit of everything in one - this dish would do you well.

At the center - "Army Troop Soup". A simple pot consisting of traditional rice cakes, ramen, sausages, luncheon meat, baked beans and kimchi, cooked in a hearty and thick topokki sauce broth, and topped with mozzerella cheese.

At the side - Cheese Chicken Topokki and Egg.

After all of that, the Korean Fried Rice was added and cooked in the same pot, soaking up all the remaining flavors of the broth.

We walked out of Omaya, a little over 2-hours later, got ourselves a sundae each from mcdonalds (had dire cravings for something sweet, I think it was the scorching weather), before heading home.

Thank you Omaya Malaysia for the Korean feast.
