"I will make reservations. There's always a queue," my friend advised.
And so we made our way to Senya at Publika that Sunday evening, to have the acclaimed - best Hokkaido Pork Don in town, or so they say. My friends have had it plenty of times and would undoubtedly vouched for it, but I knew I had to try it for myself.
Ordering was a breeze and food was quick to be served. Our cups of hot tea were served even before we could complete our order. Let's just talk about the don and not about the restaurant - only the don.
Before I know, the glorious bowl of Hokkaido Pork Don (RM23.00) was placed upon me.
The pork was scrumptious - neatly arranged, nicely charred, and glistening beautifully, topped with pickled radish (which I carefully picked out). Underneath, lack-than-inspiring serving of cabbage and Japanese rice underneath. The don could get real savory towards the end however, hence I sprinkled some curry powder over the rice to balance out the richness from the sauce.
This is possibly one of the better renditions of Hokkaido Pork Don that I've sampled thus far.
Wanting to have something a bit more fiery and comforting, my friend ordered the Spicy Ramen (RM24.50).
Alongside a huge serving of Salmon Salad and some really delicious Pork Skewers (RM9.40), in which I'd highly recommend.
Overall Rating: 8/10. I thought my Japanese meal here that evening was delicious, and reasonably priced for it's quality and quantity served. Best Hokkaido Pork Don in town? I would definitely come back for you.
