A Japanese restaurant specialising in "Kamameshi", or kettle rice, which is essentially a traditional Japanese rice dish served in a iron pot.
The Food:
For a quitessential kickstart to the meal, we ordered the Crab Tamago (RM24) to share - a steaming blanket of perfectly fluffed eggs with crab. It was delicious though felt a tad overpriced. It was my first time having Kamameshi (RM34 to RM60 for their specials), served in a iron pot, and comes with a bowl of miso soup and condiments at the side. The seafood ingredients was fresh and definitely thumbs-up worthy. There's also a small bowl provided, to be eaten together with rice, and a soup base that came seperately. Now, to begin with I always prefer to have my rice with a bit of soy/sweet sauce. I felt that Hokkaido Ichie's version came a little dry, somewhat bland even, so much so that I had to sprinkle chili powder all over my rice. Personal preference nevertheless.
Overall Rating: 8/10.
For the rare "kettle rice" experience. For those who're keen on trying something else, there's also a handful of ramen dishes in their menu. The restaurant is also very family and kids friendly. Is there any other Kamameshi restaurants in town?
